Tlaib Threatens Biden if he Does not Call for Ceasefire

Share

Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) continues to attract criticism over her calls for a ceasefire amidst the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Over the weekend, Rep. Tlaib posted a video on social media, urging President Joe Biden (D) to call for a ceasefire. If Biden does not call for the ceasefire, Tlaib has threatened to vote against him in 2024.

The video opens with footage of a press conference wherein President Biden affirms that the United States stands in Israel amidst the war. However, Democrats have faced infighting as Democrats like the “Squad” have been critical of Israel’s defense against Hamas.

In response to the president’s reassurance, Tlaib disagrees.

“Mr. President, the American people are not with you on this one. You need to support a ceasefire now. We will remember where you stood,” Tlaib captions the video, which includes footage of her saying “we will remember in 2024.”

Tlaib has drawn criticism from both Republicans and Democrats regarding her views on the war between Israel and Hamas. Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D), in speaking to CNN, commented that Tlaib was “fanning the flames,” which could result in people being hurt.

The war escalated over the weekend as footage began circulating, showing a mob storming the Dagestan airport in search of Jewish passengers that were coming from Israel.

Rep.Wasserman Schultz has been critical of Tlaib in the past, expressing that Tlaib has shared antisemitic rhetoric.

In an X post dated September 21, 2023, she shared that “the outrageous progressive litmus test on Israel by Rashida Tlaib is nothing short of antisemitic,” adding that “proud progressives do support Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state. Suggesting otherwise is shameful and dangerous.”

Wasserman Schultz ended the post by writing that “divisive rhetoric does not lead to peace.”

Georgia Senator Marjorie Taylor Green (R) has introduced a measure to censure Tlaib because of her comments.

Rep. Byron Donalds was asked if he would vote in favor of censuring Tlaib. Rep. Donalds reiterated that he was a "Yes" vote to censure Tlaib.
