In a move nobody ever saw coming, the Biden Administration has authorized the construction of twenty miles of border wall to try and stem the tide of illegal migrants. Representatives Greg Steube (R-FL) and Monica De La Cruz (R-TX) appeared on Fox's Evening Edit to discuss, with both agreeing the move was purely "political calculation."
Rep. De La Cruz said that while she was grateful, "it just simply is not enough," as 6 million migrants (and counting) have already crossed the border, including over 100 known terrorists.
"It is just simply unacceptable that the Biden Administration has had failed border policies, and he is just barely starting to act now. The only reason he is is because his poll numbers are bad and because of the pressure that the Texas delegation, myself, and constituents have put on. It is about time they started acting," Rep. De La Cruz continued.
Host Elizabeth MacDonald inquired if "something out there" caused the Biden Administration's reversal, though Rep. Steube countered that "they do not care about the safety and security of the American people."
"It is now a political calculation," Rep. Steube added, "You have Democratic mayors and Governors in New York now saying that something has to be done. We cannot handle the influx of migrants, and they have only had like +100,000 in New York City. You have had 6 million cross the border, and you have had the southern parts of our country completely by all of these illegal immigrants. It is a political calculation. They know it is a political liability going into the Election in 2024 next year."
Moreover, over 26 Federal laws are being waived to build this new section of wall, which proved to De La Cruz that "the Democrats are getting desperate," especially when Hispanic and Latino voters are shifting Republican.
"And the reason they are trending Republican is because of the lack of border security that they see. They see the sex trafficking, they see the illegal drugs coming through our ports of entry and in between the ports of entry. And what [Democrats] are trying to do is save themselves for the 2024 Election... We need true policy," De La Cruz demanded.
MacDonald asked Steube what policies should be in place.
"I think the border should be shut down, absolutely. I think the Remain in Mexico policy that Trump put in place that alleviated a lot of these challenges should be put back in place and the completion of the border wall," Steube concluded, pointing out that "96% of [migrants] do not have asylum," which requires their deportation, yet "this administration refuses to deport them."
