Moskowitz Calls Republican Speaker Battle 'Manufactured Crisis'

Share

The ongoing battle for a House Speaker has passed the two-week mark, and the Republicans cannot get behind a candidate. Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) appeared on MSNBC's 11th Hour to comment from the other side of the aisle, saying this is "a manufactured crisis" that Democrats are "ready to bail [Republicans] out and make sure Congress can work."

"Well look Jim Jordan apparently likes to continue to take an L and he'll get another one tomorrow..." @JaredEMoskowitz talks about the stakes in the current race for Speaker of the House as Rep. Jim Jordan fails to win the gavel a second day in a row," The 11th Hour tweeted.

Host Stephanie Ruhle began by asking Rep. Moskowitz what is at stake with Congress unable to act. He answered that "the stakes could not be higher," throwing in one of his signature snipes by saying, "[Representative] Jim Jordan apparently likes to take an L, and he will get another one tomorrow."

Additionally, Rep. Moskowitz blamed former President Donald Trump for dividing the Republican Party in contrast to the Democrats, whom he said "are ready to work on a bipartisan basis and get Congress open to pass this aid package to Israel and Ukraine, to make sure the government can stay open, to make sure we are doing the work of the American people."

To that end, he reiterated that the Democrats are willing to aid Republicans (which means they are all solidly behind Representative Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), something no Republican wants).

Nevertheless, Moskowitz said the Speaker battle among Republicans "is something of their complete making" and that "It is what happens when you let the fringe run the Party."

"Remember that rule that was passed to allow one member to make a motion to vacate? Every single Republican voted for that rule, and every single Democrat voted against it. So this is a manufactured crisis solely by MAGA, but Democrats are ready to help them and bail them out and make sure Congress can work, show our allies Congress can work, and show our enemies that democracy is working in the United States," Moskowitz concluded.
