Luna Says ‘America won’ With Johnson as Speaker

The search for a speaker of the house is over. Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson (R) received the necessary votes to become the new House Speaker. While Republicans have touted his election as the necessary step forward, Democrats are warning that Johnson is no good for American politics. However, Republicans like Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R) argue that “American won” with his election as House Speaker.

Earlier this week, Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) held a press conference, affirming that the new House Speaker would need to secure the border. While the jury is still out as to whether Johnson will support securing the border to the extent that Crenshaw would like, it’s clear that conservatives feel hopeful about Johnson taking the reins with congress.

During an interview with Newsmax, Luna was asked to comment on Johnson’s election, and she shared that “there was a movement to stop him, and the majority of the conference consolidated around him from all factions… even some of the most moderates to the most conservative members said, ‘you’re not going to do this to our guy.’”

“He’s going to be one of the most conservative speakers we’ll have in my lifetime,” Luna added.

In contrast, Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson (D) took to social media to not only congratulate Johnson on being elected House Speaker, but Rep. Wilson also called on Congress to regain order to address important concerns that have been left unresolved.

“As we emerge from the turbulence that has gripped the House for the past 22 days, I hope we can put the partisanship aside and work together, as Democrats and Republicans, to deliver for the American people.”

In his new role, Wilson says that he “has the opportunity to bring fresh leadership to this House of Representatives and, by extension, the nation.”
