Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R) being ousted for the speakership has left a vacancy that lawmakers are quickly looking to fill. Since the vote to oust, Rep. McCarthy, several names have surfaced to replace him. From Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan (R) to Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise (R), the speakership nominations have poured in, and even President Donald Trump (R) has been nominated. In a message to supporters, President Trump announced that he was endorsing Rep. Jordan for the speakership.
Soon after his name was floated as the next speaker of the House, President Trump commented that he would do whatever was best for both the Republican party and the United States.
However, even though his name was brought up, President Trump has made it clear that his intention is to be the 47th president of the U.S.
In a message to supporters, Trump shared that when he’s inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, he’s going to “need a great Speaker of the House.”
That being said, Trump went on to endorse Jim Jordan for the role.
“We need a great patriot, Jim Jordan, as speaker who will defund the weaponization of our justice system, issue subpoenas, hold Joe Biden accountable for his crimes and corruption, stop the release and resettlement of illegal aliens into your communities, and stand up to the Radical Left Communists who are destroying this country,” Trump says in the message.
Both Jordan and Scalise have been the most vocal legislators that are vying for the position.
Jordan, over the weekend, commented that he feels “very good” about his odds of winning the speakership.
During an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’ ‘Sunday Morning Futures,’ Jordan said, “we got three committee chairmen for me. I feel very good about that support.”
Scalise has not responded to Trump’s endorsement of Jordan.
