Covo Pushes Left-Wing and Moderate Messaging to Voters

Share

Miami—City of Miami Commissioner Sabina Covo (D) is running for re-election but appears to be facing a tough challenge from seven other candidates vying for her job, including Progressive and openly gay Damian Pardo, nicknamed “Pay-to-Play Pardo” and Attorney Eddy Leal.

In February of 2023Sabina Covo (D) was elected to fill the vacant commissioner seat left by Ken Russell, who left the seat to run fo the U.S. Congress.  Commissioner Covo made history as the second-only Latina woman elected to the commission.  This is crucial, especially in a place like South Florida, where the cultural hegemony is largely Hispanic

Covo, who we can only assume has learned the Pledge of Allegiance since last March, appears to be trying to win over two different voting blocs by mailing different and specific campaign messages to Democratic and Independent voters, respectively.

In one campaign message, which was definitely not sent out to Republican voters, Covo states that she is running for reelection to “Protect our Democratic Values,” and boasts of her endorsements from the Miami-Dade Young Democrats, SEIU teamsters, and Democratic County Miami Daniella Levine Cava.

Covo also lists very Pro-Progressive talking points:

  • Defending women’s reproductive rights
  • Protecting LGBTQ+ equality in the face of MAGA attacks

In the other campaign mailing sent out, Covo seems to take a more moderate-sounding tone with voters.

Covo takes a “Green” approach, citing her efforts to clean up the city and create more “beautification projects.”

In addition, Covo cites that she is working with First Responders to increase a police presence in downtown Miami.

Interestingly enough, Florida’s overall crime rate is way down, but it is soaring in the City of Miami.

The election in Miami’s District 2 race will be held on November 7th.
