Cammack Pokes Fun at Jeffries' 'Dog Whistle' Speech to Congress

Following the conclusion of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ (D-NY) traditional speech that is given to the Congress after the election of a new Speaker of the House, Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) spoke to The Floridian where she said the Minority Leader’s speech felt more like “an audition for Speaker.”

“I thought it sounded more like an audition for Speaker. But he’s 0-19 at this point in his bid to become Speaker, I think that is an astoundingly large losing record in his bid to become Speaker in terms of rounds that he’s lost, but we didn’t need a campaign speech. We need our Speaker and we elected that man today,” said Rep. Cammack.

When asked if Jeffries’ remarks were bipartisan, Rep. Cammack mentioned that Jeffries’ speech was a “dog whistle” for the Democrats’ campaign issues.

“No, it was a campaign speech that was really a dog whistle for all the campaign issues that they want to run. They ran on [these issues in] 2020, 2022, and will run on ’24,” said Cammack.

She was then questioned if she would run for Vice Chair (of the Republican Conference). The Florida Congresswoman responded, “I’ve had several people ask. I don’t know, I haven’t made a decision yet. I need to consult with the man who held the position previously, now Speaker Johnson.”

In addition to the comments that she provided to The Floridian, Cammack expressed her frustration with Jeffries’ speech on social media.

“Hakeem Jeffries, this isn’t an audition for Speaker. You’re 0-19. Wrap up this campaign speech and let the REAL Speaker get to work! #SpeakerMikeJohnson,” said Cammack.

She also made a celebratory post for newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

“Congratulations to my friend Rep. Mike Johnson! As our new Speaker designee, he has already made incredible strides bringing our conference together. He is a good man and a constitutional conservative. He believes in #WeThePeople! Together, we serve on the Weaponization subcommittee. The new era of vision, faith, and freedom is here. Let’s do this!” stated Rep. Cammack.

Rep. Johnson will serve as the 56^th Speaker of the House of the United States.
