Washington, D.C.- Congressional members are demanding all United States aid to Gaza be halted following Hamas’ barbaric terrorist attacks on Israel.
Former President Donald Trump’s administration had ceased granting Gaza any US aid, a decision President Joe Biden decided to overturn, and has yet to bring up since the attack occurred.
Florida Representative Cory Mills (R) claimed cutting off aid to Gaza “is the least we can do” to support Israel in their struggle against Gaza’s Hamas terrorist organization.
“The U.S. must immediately stop all aid to Gaza and the Palestinian Authority after the unprovoked terrorist attack against Israel, and the human rights atrocities that Hamas terrorists committed, are committing, against Israelis and foreign nations. Israel will root out the cowardly terrorist, and we as Americans must support Israel’s right to defend itself,” sai Representative Mills in a statement responding to The Floridian's request for comment.
Since April 2021, the U.S. has provided over half a billion dollars in assistance for the Palestinians in Gaza. The main fear is that US aid will enable the Palestinian Authority and Hamas to divert funds otherwise used for public services to arming and supporting Hamas.
When asked about the idea of gutting funds to Gaza, Representative Michael Waltz (R) answered affirmatively.
“Yes. As we did under the Trump administration. It makes the corrupt officials fatter, the terrorists more dangerous and the people still starve,” stated Rep. Michael Waltz.
Fellow Floridian, Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R), agreed that all aid to Gaza needed to be cut "as long as Hamas is in charge."
Paradoxically, hours before Hamas’ attack and invasion of Israel, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken authorized releasing $75 million in food assistance to Gaza and the West Bank.
“Thank you [Blinken] for providing $75 million in food assistance to Palestine refugees in Gaza! This generous support from the American people will allow UNRWA to continue this critical aspect of its humanitarian and human development work through the end of Q1 2024,” said the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA).
Lawmakers and political officials have condemned Hamas’ actions. Progressive pro-Palestinian rallies have faced backlash, including from top Democrat leaders.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) denounced pro-Palestinian rallies in New York City.
“I can’t think of anything more ill-timed and cold-hearted than today's demonstration in Times Square,” said Senator Schumer.
I can’t think of anything more ill-timed and cold-hearted than today's demonstration in Times Square.
We’ve seen unprecedented viciousness coming from Hamas aimed at innocent families and children.
Everyone—no matter your views—should condemn this brutal act.
