Trump Overtakes Biden in new CBS News Poll

Share

A CBS News poll indicates that President Donald Trump (R) has overtaken President Joe Biden (D) in support. The poll weighed in several factors, and although the polling still shows Biden and Trump neck-and-neck, the poll suggests that doubt over Biden could be mounting.

The poll shows that 49% of likely voters list President Biden as their choice for president while 50% say that President Trump is their top pick. As well, one-third of voters believe that President Biden will finish his second term, and over half believe that President Trump would finish a second term.

The poll showed that voters are displeased with the political system if the 2024 election ends up being a 2020 rematch. If that’s the case, 64% believe that the political system is broken contrasting with 23% that believe the political system is working.

Finally, only 8% believe that a 2020 rematch means that Biden and Trump are the best candidates.

Trump has been the frontrunner since announcing his intention to run, and this week also comes with an endorsement from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R). During an interview with Fox News, Speaker McCarthy anticipated that Trump would become the Republican nominee, commenting that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is “not at the same level as President Trump by any shape or form.” Moreover, McCarthy also suggested that DeSantis would have never been elected in 2018 if Trump hadn’t endorsed him.

In response, Governor DeSantis issued some words at McCarthy during a press conference.

In reference to the relationship between Trump and McCarthy, DeSantis said that “Trump was instrumental in him [McCarthy] earning that Speaker’s gavel and they worked hand in glove really through his whole presidency,” adding that “they were on the same team on every major spending bill that came down the pike and they ended up together adding $7.8 trillion to our national debt.”
