DeSantis On Migrant Crisis: 'They Are All Going Back'

Share

With the second 2024 Republican presidential primary debate being held later this week, solving the border crisis will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion and addressed at the debate in California. Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) recently spoke with Glenn Beck on The Blaze on how he would deal with the immense numbers of migrants crossing the border daily with a simple "they are all going back."

Gov. DeSantis pointed out how migrants are supposedly "registering with the Federal government" before crossing the border, which he called "insane."

"If you are not going to have a sanction for coming illegally, then you are going to continue to deal with this problem, one way or another. So that will be a sanction that we are going to enforce. It has not been enforced, really, for many, many decades, probably back to Eisenhower," said Gov. DeSantis.

Additionally, DeSantis stated that he would enlist Texas, Arizona, and "whoever wants to help us to get that job done." However, the border crisis has "already done incalculable damage."

He shifted to when Florida sent 50 Venezuelan migrants to Martha's Vineyard last September, where the residents called in the National Guard and removed the migrants within a day.

"It was like, you have got to be kidding me with this. So just with that, they said in one of the wealthiest enclaves offseason and a lot of housing, they had all of that there," DeSantis continued.

Moreover, he explained that rather than hurt his reelection as Governor among South Florida's Venezuelan community, his moving of migrants to Martha's Vineyard was met with high-fives because "they are concerned about [Nicolas] Maduro emptying prisoners and sending people to the border."

"And I think other countries in Latin and South America are doing it so you end up having people we do not know who they are," he added.

More insidiously, people from Russia, China, and Iran have also been encountered at the border, leading DeSantis to speculate on whether "there is any way possible that we do not have a terrorist attack in the future that can be linked to somebody across the border? Not, not a chance, it is going to happen."

As a result, he concluded by saying, "We will do a big repatriation and then stop the insane policy. Yeah, we will do the wall, but you should not even entertain these claims where you are giving them a court date [in] three years. Just have them wait on the other side of the border. that is what we have got to do."

Both DeSantis and GOP frontrunner Donald Trump have also spoken in favor of using military force to battle the Mexican drug cartels, which received harsh criticism from the President of Mexico.
