Waltz Warns America Must 'Wake Up' to China's 'Cold War'

Almost a dozen Chinese and Russian ships sailed dangerously close to the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, another example of China's aggression against the United States. Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) appeared on Fox Business's Cavuto Coast to Coast, saying we must "wake up to the cold war that China has entered with the United States."

Additionally, the joint exercise with Russia highlights how closely the two countries have cooperated as of late, said Rep. Waltz. For example, China has imported massive amounts of Russian oil, buying nearly 10 million tons in May alone.

More importantly, the joint exercise "highlights the fact that how unprepared, frankly, in many ways, our military has become," Rep. Waltz continued.

"It highlights the fact that how unprepared, frankly, in many ways, our military has become. Yes, we scrambled four destroyers this time, but in a previous incursion, we could only scramble one Coast Guard cutter. Biden's defense budget has us retiring more ships than we are building. Meanwhile, China is on the path to double the number of ships that we have in our Navy, and they already have the largest Navy in the world," the Florida Congressman added.

Furthermore, the shrinkage of the polar ice caps up in the Arctic have exposed vast quantities of oil and gas, which China and Russia seek to control, while the Biden Administration seemingly lets them by refusing to drill or build new military bases in the region.

"This is no time to be cutting our defense budget, and it is no time to be kowtowing to the Chinese dictatorship over climate change, but that is the policy we have from this Administration," Waltz said, referring to the Biden Administration's seeming dependence on China to move away from oil towards "green" energy, which other Florida Republicans have repeatedly warned against.

"This is why the Administration's China policy is all over the place. They are trying to appease China when it comes to climate, which means shutting down our greatest asset, which is our energy independence. Meanwhile, China is building ships at a rate of five to one, more than we are, so that they can dominate those sea lanes and energy supplies. We have got to wake up to the cold war that China has entered with the United States and now has a junior partner in Russia," Waltz concluded.

In March, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) similarly warned that the United States and China have entered "a new Cold War."
