Waltz Discusses Trump Going to Georgia for 4th Indictment

Share

After the first Republican primary debate, former President Donald Trump traveled to Georgia to turn himself in at Fulton County Jail for his fourth indictment. Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) appeared on Fox Business's Varney & Co.where he blasted the politicized nature of Trump's charges and criticized Governor Ron DeSantis's (R-FL) hesitancy to support Trump if convicted.

Host Stuart Varney said Trump's time at the jail would be "a circus," to which Rep. Waltz agreed thoroughly, mocking Democrats who say the case is not political, echoing a similar statement made by Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) that the timing of Trump's indictments and court dates is intentionally hamstringing his Presidential campaign.

"You just heard that they are saying they are just going to treat him like anybody else. But he is obviously not anybody else, and the Democrats are trying to pretend like there is not an ongoing political process, that there is not a race for President, and that he is not the leading candidate for the Republican Party. And gee, what a coincidence that this investigation has been going on for years. You get eighteen codefendants, and it is all just coincidentally going to come together and have a trial date the day before Super Tuesday. I mean, come on, anybody can see that this is highly politicized," said Rep. Waltz.

Varney then played the footage of Gov. DeSantis hesitating to raise his hand when asked if he would support Trump if convicted, asking Waltz for his take.

"You cannot have it both ways," answered Waltz, "You cannot say, "The [Department of Justice] is politicized I am going to clean house, this is two-tier justice and all about politics and what is good for thee but not for me," but then say, That is not the case when it comes to President Trump, and therefore I would not support him." I mean, look: Either this is highly politicized, and we have got to fix it, or it is not," Waltz continued.

More to the point, he added, "Millions of Americans believe this is all about politics," and it is "ruining, eroding, killing trust in our justice system," as Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) previously suggested when reports indicated the DOJ had no intention of prosecuting Hunter Biden prior to the IRS whistleblower testimony.

Finally, Waltz said Trump's day in Georgia would strengthen support behind him, more than he already has, because it reflects a message Trump had said before, "If they could do it to [him], a former President and billionaire, then they can do it to you."
