Gaetz Introduces Legislation to Abolish USAID

Share

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) has introduced a bill to abolish the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), citing their record of “pushing radical, leftist ideology abroad” instead of employing common diplomatic practices that foster proper relationships with foreign nations that are “consistent with American values.”

According to the Heritage Foundation report, USAID used American taxpayer dollars to take advantage of foreign aid programs to “export radical leftist ideology across the world.”

Abortion programs, gender equity programs, and climate alarmism programs were among those USAID utilized.

The legislation would no longer make federal funds available to USAID and would force the agency to rescind unobligated funds and transfer all other assets and liabilities to the Secretary of State.

“American taxpayer dollars are being wasted to fund radical leftist propaganda in foreign countries. The American people will not tolerate government-funded degeneracy at home, and we certainly will not accept its force-feeding abroad under Old Glory,” stated Rep. Gaetz.

He would go on to mention, “USAID does not serve a meaningful purpose. It is used as a slush fund for international wokeism. Therefore, serious lawmakers in Congress should support its complete abolition.”

The legislation is co-sponsored by Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).

Moreover, Rep. Gaetz also introduced the End Birthright Citizenship Fraud Act of 2023.

The bill would prevent children born to foreign nationals from automatically attaining citizenship at birth, with the exception of lawful permanent residents, lawfully-admitted refugees, and those "performing active services in the U.S. Armed Forces," as Rep. Gaetz's press release described.

"Birthright citizenship has been grossly and blatantly misapplied for decades, recently becoming a loophole for illegal aliens to fraudulently abuse our immigration system. My legislation recognizes that American citizenship is a privilege –– not an automatic right to be co-opted by illegal aliens," said Rep. Gaetz, calling the bill "an important step in preserving the sanctity of American citizenship and ensures that citizenship is not treated as a loophole to be exploited but rather a privilege to be earned when legally migrating to our country."

Gaetz represents Florida’s 1st District.
