Florida Lawmakers Acknowledge 2 Year Anniversary of Botched Afghanistan Withdrawal

Share

Aug. 15, marks the two-year anniversary of the tragic withdrawal from Afghanistan which left 13 U.S. service members dead and hundreds of American citizens stranded. The Taliban then proceeded to take control of the region – including billions of dollars of equipment that the United States left behind. Republican legislators from the state of Florida provided their thoughts surrounding the monumental day in American history.

The statements issued by the lawmakers were filled with grief, blame, sorrow, and sadness.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) said that the withdrawal caused the lives of Americans and our allies to be “carelessly put in danger.”

Today marks two years since Pres. Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. Members of the U.S. armed services, Afghan partners, and our allies’ service members were carelessly put in danger,” stated Rubio. “We continue to unite in solidarity and prayer for the Afghan people, especially the women and children who are now at the mercy of the Taliban.”

Green Beret and Congressman Mike Waltz (R-FL) stated that U.S. service members that fought in Afghanistan have been “sick to their stomach” due to the tragedy and reminded the American people that there has been “No accountability. None.”

“Today marks two years since the Taliban seized Kabul and Biden's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Every single veteran who fought in Afghanistan has been sick to their stomach, myself included. We will never forget the many lives lost that August & every day since,” stated Rep. Waltz.

“The most important story today should be that Biden handed Afghanistan over to terrorists and nobody has been fired or resigned two years later. No accountability. None.”

Finally, Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) said that the Biden administration has done “everything possible to escape accountability.”

“Today we mark two years since Kabul fell to the Taliban, undoing decades of U.S. military efforts. The fall of the capital set a deadly chain of events, including losing 13 American heroes and leaving $80 billion worth of U.S. military equipment in the hands of the Taliban. Joe Biden and his incompetent administration have done everything possible to escape accountability for why they failed to plan for worst-case scenarios. Two years later, we still deserve answers and accountability for this failure,” stated Rep. Steube.

Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) accused the Democratic Party of playing politics while attempting to blame the botched Afghanistan withdrawal on former President Donald Trump (R).
