Eskamani Won't Let 'DeSantis win' on Worrell Suspension

Florida Rep. Anna V. Eskamani (D) commented on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R) suspension of state attorney Monique Worrell (D). The move has drawn outrage from Democrats across the state. Rep. Eskamani made it clear that Democrats are prepared to not let “DeSantis win” on the suspension of Worrell.

During an appearance on Morning Rush, Rep. Eskamani discussed the recent suspension, saying that it’s not a surprise that Governor DeSantis would do that because he is “running a flailing national campaign for presidency, and he’s going back to his playbook.”

When discussing Worrell’s work in office, she called Governor DeSantis’ decision an unconstitutional one because Worrell has democratically elected. She called Worrell someone that was elected “based on reform. Based on ensuring every person would seek an ability of justice.” As an elected official, “she’s been effective in doing that. Crime is down in our region.”

In exploring Governor DeSantis’ decision to suspend Worrell, Eskamani argued that it’s an example of him attempting to appeal to voters that support “law and order.” However, she cited Worrell’s recent comments about the weaponization of the law in Florida, affirming that “justice does not prevail in the state of Florida at this time.”

"He doesn’t care what the voters want. He cares about his own thirst for power and authority,” Eskamani argued, mentioning that Democrats are gearing up for the 2024 election.

“From a political perspective, we’re on the ground,” she explained, further commenting that Worrell will be running for reelection in 2024 similar to the situation that transpired with the “Tennessee 3.” Eskamani shared that Democrats are prepared to help Worrell win her reelection, and that Democrats are mobilizing voters to pushback against Republican influence in the state.

For Democrats, this is a moment of fighting back, and in Florida, Democrats say they’re gearing up because they “can’t let someone like DeSantis win.”
