DeSantis Appears to Defend Trump After Latest Federal Election Interference Indictment

It appears as if everything bad news comes out that sheds a bad light on the Biden Administration, a new indictment against former President Donald Trump is released by President Biden’s Department of Justice. Tuesday was no exception as Special Counsel Jack Smith indicted the former president on four federal charges a day after Hunter Biden’s former business partner, Devon Archer, testified before the House Oversight Committee on the apparent collusion between Biden and his son’s business practices.

The new indictment alleges that Trump: conspired to defraud the United States; conspired to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding; and conspired against rights.

Trump’s chief 2024 Republican presidential primary opponent, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, released a statement appearing to defend Trump against what he calls the “weaponization of government,” adding that if he is elected President, he would end that “weaponization.”

“As President, I will end the weaponization of government, replace the FBI Director, and ensure a single standard of justice for all Americans. While I’ve seen reports, I have not read the indictment. I do, though, believe we need to enact reforms so that Americans have the right to remove cases from Washington, DC to their home districts,” said Gov. DeSantis. “ Washington, DC is a “swamp” and it is unfair to have to stand trial before a jury that is reflective of the swamp mentality. One of the reasons our country is in decline is the politicization of the rule of law. No more excuses—I will end the weaponization of the federal government.”

While DeSantis took the higher road and did not attack Trump, several of the other lower-tiered Republican presidential candidates expressed their distaste with Trump, including former Vice President Mike Pence.

“Today's indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States. Our country is more important than one man,” stated VP Pence. “ Our constitution is more important than any one man’s career. On January 6th, Former President Trump demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution. I chose the Constitution and I always will.”

Two of Trump’s top surrogates, Reps Byron Donalds and Matt Gaetz, expressed their support for the former president while dressing down Jack Smith federal case as a “total disgrace to the United States of America.

“STAND WITH TRUMP,” proclaimed Rep. Donalds.

“Jack Smith and his indictment will forever go down in history as a total disgrace to the United States of America. President Trump defended our democracy, and we have an obligation to defend him against the Deep State’s crusade to destroy our movement,” stated Rep. Gaetz.

In response to the new indictment, President Trump’s compared the ongoing “witch hunt” to the former Soviet Union and Nazi Germany.

“The lawlessness of these persecutions of President Trump and his supporters is reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930’s, the former Soviet Union, and other Authoritarian, dictatorial regimes.”
