Political Armistice Prevails During Independence Day Celebrations

Share

July 4, 2023- A glimmer of hope for bipartisanship and civilized discussion appears as conservative and progressive politicians alike rejoice during our nation’s birthday.

Notwithstanding politics’ increasingly raucous daily-conflicts, politicians halted their feuds as they celebrated America’s Independence day.

Republicans and Democrats have mostly kept politics at bay during this fourth of July and have instead focused on all we have to be grateful to this nation for.

Conservative messaging focused mostly on cherishing current freedoms and fighting to protect these. Progressives struck a hopeful tone, acknowledging America’s achievements but aspiring to improve the country’s social inequities via government intervention.

Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) reminded Americans the freedoms they enjoy were strenuously fought for and require constant vigilance.

“Let’s remember the sacrifice of so many to protect our freedoms at home and abroad,” said Senator Scott.

Democratic Florida Senate Democrat Leader Lauren Book shared similar sentiment.

“Let's cherish our liberties, enjoy the festivities with loved ones, and reflect on the incredible journey of our democracy,” said Senator Book.

Florida Representative Maxwell Frost (D) echoed the Democrat Party’s stance that America is yet to fulfill its freedom, liberty, and justice promises.

Representative Frost denoted his belief that we are still in the process of “creating a nation of true justice.”

Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) rejected the idea that America is systematically racist and in arrears with freedom and liberty pledges.

“Today we have many influential people who see America as an evil nation built on stolen land & who are offended by our, patriotic songs & chants of USA,” said Senator Rubio.

Addressing parents, Rubio asked they help their “kids understand that those people may be rich, famous or have fancy degrees but they also happen to be nuts.”

The fervor and unison with which Americans are celebrating the fourth seems to indicate a shared commitment to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However, deep political divides overshadow today’s celebrations as Americans increasingly disagree over fundamental, policy-guiding issues.

Nonetheless, from the staff at the Floridian, we wish you a free and very happy Fourth of July!
