President Donald Trump (R) remains the hot topic of debate in the campaign trail amidst candidates attempting to distinguish themselves. With a candidate like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) outright defining himself as setting out to defeat him, others are looking to move past the 45th president. This week, while campaigning in Iowa, Vice President Mike Pence (R) was pressed by voters over the 2020 election.

President Trump has surged in the polls since announcing his candidacy for the 2024 election, and despite legal proceedings, he remains as the frontrunner.

In comes his former Vice President.

Not only is Pence running for the Republican nomination to challenge President Joe Biden (D), but Pence has also fallen out of good graces with Trump supporters.

Pence remains committed to winning the hearts and minds of Trump supporters, but the campaign trail is proving to be a difficult feat.

While speaking to supporters in Iowa, a voter pressed Pence over the 2020 election, arguing that it’s his fault that Americans have had to live with Biden being president.

“If it wasn’t for your vote, we would not have Joe Biden in the White House. Joe Biden shouldn’t be there. And all those wonderful things that you and Trump were doing together would be continuing, and this country would be on the right path,” the voter told Pence.

In response, Pence clarified that “the Constitution affords no authority for the vice president or anyone else to reject votes or return votes to the states.” “Never been done before, should never be done in the future. I’m sorry, ma’am, but that’s actually what the Constitution says,” Pence further explained.

Pence also mentioned that Trump was wrong about the power he [Pence] wielded during his time in office, and he continues to be wrong about it on the campaign trail.
