Moody Counters Newsom's Calls to Investigate DeSantis for Relocating Migrants

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) requested investigations into his rival Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for the latter's relocation of illegal migrants. Florida Attorney General (AG) Ashley Moody wrote to the Department of Justice (DOJ), warning Gov. Newsom's calls for investigation have no legal basis and are little more than "a ridiculous political stunt."

In September, Gov. DeSantis made headlines for relocating approximately 50 migrants to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Gov. Newsom called for DeSantis to be pressed with kidnapping charges, despite DeSantis providing proof the migrants' relocation was voluntary. Newsom pressed on, calling for investigations again early this July.

"California’s letter requesting that the U.S. Department of Justice investigate Florida is a ridiculous political stunt. Our voluntary immigration relocation program is lawful, and California’s request fails to identify any violation of federal law," said AG Moody in her letter.

Additionally, AG Moody warned she would be more than willing to fight against the investigation should the DOJ go through with it.

"While I would urge you not to bail out California or engage in another political investigation or litigation; if you make the unconscionable and unfounded determination to do so, Florida stands ready to fight against DOJ’s overreach," Moody continued, vowing to "depose, subpoena, and question Biden Administration officials in connection with such a proceeding."

Moreover, the letter concluded with a declaration that an attempted investigation would only provide further proof of the White House's neglect of the southern border.

"Another opportunity for litigation will only shine a brighter light on the Biden Administration’s complete abdication of its responsibility as to immigration and the jeopardy in which it has placed our country and its citizens," Moody concluded.

The Florida AG has been viciously critical of the Biden Administration on the border crisis, saying the Mexican drug cartels "have no bigger benefactor" than they do in President Biden in March. In April, Moody spoke with Fox News on the results of a Florida grand jury convened in June showing the administration all but facilitated the trafficking of 250,000 migrant children due to pressure in expediting cases.
