Wasserman Schultz Calls Out 'Right-Wing Extremist' MAGA Republicans During Pride Month

As a Vice Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) has released a statement concerning the beginning of Pride Month.

In her press release, Rep. Wasserman Schultz called out Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), MAGA Republicans, and “right-wing extremists” for their apparent attacks against the LGBTQ+ community.

“I want to wish a happy Pride Month to the LGBTQI+ community in my district and across the country. Pride is a wonderful time of year to celebrate LGBTQI+ people, history, and culture,” said Rep. Wasserman Schultz.

“This year, as I celebrate Pride with my community, I must also call attention to the flood of anti-equality legislation advocated by Governor DeSantis and extreme MAGA Republicans across the country. During Pride Month and every other month, we must call out the hateful and cruel attacks being perpetrated against the LGBTQI+ community and push back against these right-wing extremists…I will never stop fighting on behalf of the LGBTQI+ community to enshrine equality into law.”

Congressman and Equality Caucus Chair Marc Pocan (D-WI) spoke on Pride Month and Wasserman Schultz’s efforts towards the LGBTQ+ movement since the caucus’ founding in 2008.

“I’m honored to celebrate Pride Month with Rep. Wasserman Schultz whose leadership in the Equality Caucus as a Vice Chair has contributed to the Caucus having its largest membership it has ever seen to date. As one of the Equality Caucus’ 194 members, and a founding member of the Equality Caucus, Vice Chair Wasserman Schultz actively uses her platform and leadership to advocate for the advancement of LGBTQI+ people in her district and across the country,” said Rep. Pocan.

He would go on to mention that extremism against the group is “at an all-time high,” but Wasserman Schultz’s efforts have been steadfast.

“It is a tumultuous time for the LGBTQI+ community, especially in states like Florida, where anti-LGBTQI+ extremism is at an all-time high. Vice Chair Wasserman Schultz continues to be a tireless and unwavering ally to the community and on the frontlines defending against attacks from anti-equality politicians in Congress who are trying to take away the rights of LGBTQI+ people. I am grateful to have Vice Chair Wasserman Schultz on the side of equality in this fight,” Rep. Pocan said.

Wasserman Schultz was first elected in 2004 to the House of Representatives and has served in the lower chamber since.
