Rep. Michael Waltz
As Secretary of State Antony Blinken speaks with Chinese diplomats in Beijing, China, Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) called out not only the Biden Administration's weakness toward China but also the willingness of American corporations to work with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in a recent appearance on Fox News's Sunday Morning Futures.
Rep. Waltz stated that Secretary Blinken should not even be visiting China in the first place, especially as aggression against the United States increases.
"Secretary Blinken should not be on this trip. I don't know what more the Chinese Communist Party has to do in terms of violating US sovereignty and international law for us to take a tough stand and not send our Secretary of State, and our Defense Secretary last week; over there on bended knee. That plays right into Chinese propaganda," said Rep. Waltz.
He was likely referring to recent talks between China and Cuba on establishing a spy base on the Caribbean island dictatorship, which received strong criticism from Waltz and other Republicans, in addition to other incidents such as the February spy balloon and repeated calls to ban the app TikTok due to its potential for Chinese espionage.
The ultimate reason for lacking strength in the face of such troubles, Waltz continued, was because "all the major establishment institutions that the Democrats care most about, the woke corporations on Wall Street, academia, Hollywood, the sports industry, are just desperate to keep the status quo so they can keep making money."
Waltz further criticized this insistence on maintaining the status quo despite Chairman Xi Jinping's escalating rhetoric of replacing the United States as the global superpower as "if we just keep talking enough, if we just sit at the table enough, that our adversaries will do so in-kind and be nice as well."
As such, the Florida Congressman suggested alternatives including "arming Taiwan to the teeth" and "a Reagan-style military buildup" in order to truly stand against China and its aspirations of global dominance.
In April, Waltz grilled Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs Jedediah Royal and Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Admiral John Aquilino on the Biden Administration's policies and strategies for the region, deriding them as "wishful thinking."
