Rubio Calls for Transparency Regarding Hunter Biden Laptop Story Suppression

Share

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and other Senate Republicans are urging transparency regarding the Hunter Biden laptop scandal.

Less than a month before the 2020 general election, the New York Post published a damning story concerning the contents on the laptop of the son of President Joe Biden (D).

To discredit the story as “Russian disinformation,” 51 former intelligence officials publicly denounced the Post story. It has since been proven to be accurate.

However, because of the initial censure, other media outlets ignored the story and social media companies censored “content related to the story.”

Sen. Rubio, the Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence as well as others on the committee penned a letter to the Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines “demanding answers” for the 51 former intelligence officials and their relationship with the intelligence community at the time.

“51 former senior intelligence officials released a statement concluding that the New York Post article had ‘all the classic earmarks’ of Russian disinformation. We are deeply concerned these former senior members of the U.S. Intelligence Community misused their titles and connections to pursue a coordinated, partisan effort to protect President Biden during the 2020 election,” wrote the Senators.

“We now know this letter was part of a deliberate effort to protect the Biden campaign in the waning days of the election.”

The letter would go on to mention that those former intelligence officials have the First Amendment rights protections of any civilian, but they “crossed a line” by politicizing the intelligence agencies.

“Former intelligence officials have flexibility in post-employment opportunities and maintain First Amendment protections afforded to all Americans on expressing political views,” the committee members wrote. “We believe, however, that this partisan effort crossed the line of politicizing the Intelligence Community as a whole as these former officials abused their influence within the Intelligence Community to achieve a partisan political outcome. Politicization of intelligence is wrong, dangerous, and threatens the public’s faith in institutions that should never be used to attempt to influence the democratic process.”

Rubio was joined by Senators James Risch (R-ID), Tom Cotton (R-AR), John Cornyn (R-TX), Jerry Moran (R-KS), and James Lankford (R-OK), all members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
