Republicans Think Trump Will 'Definitely' Beat Biden

Share

President Trump (R) was arraigned on federal charges in in Miami this week, but that doesn’t seem to have deterred support from Republican voters. As streets were closed and fans rushed to show their support, a new poll indicates that he is the strongest candidate to take on President Joe Biden (D) in the general election. Republican Primary voters think Trump will "definitely" beat Biden in 2024.

A CBS News/YouGov poll shows that six in 10 Republican primary voters believe that Trump will defeat Biden in the upcoming election. Trump leads the nominees with 62% of support among voters; Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has 50% of support; South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (R) has 20% of support; Vice President Mike Pence (R) has 18%; and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) with 16% rounds off the top 5 candidates with the most support.

Voters are also split 50-50 on what’s most important for the Republican nominee to address. The split is between the nominee appealing to moderates and independents and the nominee motivating conservatives and Republicans. As well, 28% of Republican voters affirm that they are only considering President Trump as their nominee while 48% are considering Trump and other candidates and 24% are not considering Trump.

Trump’s legal woes have dominated the air waves, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R), polling at 10%, has made it his priority to take down Trump. However, this has not dissuaded Trump from stepping down from the race, and his fans appear to have only become emboldened as the charges ensue.

Vivek Ramaswamy (R), who’s polling at 12%, has been the candidate pushing back the most against Trump’s charges, and he’s even made a call for all the nominees to vow that, if elected, they should pardon Trump.

“I challenge every U.S. presidential candidate to join me in standing for truth,” he said this week, adding that they should “commit to pardon Donald Trump for these federal charges on Day 1, or explain why you won’t.”

“No one should hide,” he warned.

“Not Biden. Not DeSantis. Not Haley. Not Pence. Not RFK. Not Scott. Not Anyone. Principles over politics.”
