Republican lawmakers are relishing in the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s abolishment of the decades-long Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion across the nation.

Florida Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R), a self-styled unapologetic pro-lifer, held up a “Life Wins” flag in his Washington, D.C. office this week to express his support the highest court’s overturning of the landmark 1974 abortion rights decision.

“Today marks the anniversary of the Dobbs vs. Jackson SCOTUS ruling that paved the way for states throughout the country to enact laws that better protect the lives of unborn children. I remain unapologetically pro-life and will continue to do all I can to fight for the unborn,” stated Rep. Bilirakis.

Senator Marco Rubio released a campaign-like video commemorating the decision and speaking out for the continued protection of future unborn babies.

“Because the right to live is the one right upon which all the other rights we claim depend. Without life there is no speech to protect, there is no religion to practice. Without life frankly, nothing else matters,” Sen. Rubio said in his video.

In Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis recently signed the controversial 6-week abortion ban measure into law, but that law awaits the conservative and DeSantis-chosen Florida Supreme Court decide if the law will stand.

As expected, Florida Democrats and pro-choice lawmakers have drawn a line in the proverbial political sand, and have asserted that Gov. DeSantis is nothing more than a “right-wing” radical that would look to ban abortions nationwide now that he is running for President in 2024.

Rep. Bilirakis’s Democratic colleague in the House of Representatives, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, is arguably the most outspoken pro-choice lawmaker in Washington and has been at the forefront in trying to paint Republicans as “extremists” who are solely concerned with harming women

“MAGA extremists already harmed too many #Fla women, now right-wing radicals like @GovRonDeSantis want to take abortion bans national,” stated Rep. Wasserman Schultz.

Fellow South Florida Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D), echoed Rep. Wasserman Schultz, addressing Republican lawmakers as “right-wing politicians.”

“A year after #RoevWade fell, abortion rights are hanging by a thread in Florida. I'll continue to fight for a woman's right to choose. One's health shouldn't be left to the whim of right-wing politicians,” stated Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick.

According to NARAL, one of the nation’s largest pro-choice organizations, if the Florida Supreme Court upholds the 6-week abortion ban law, the state will become the 13th to restrict abortions at the 6-week mark.

Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas all have 6-week abortion laws.
