Steube Criticizes Resign to Run Bill Allowing DeSantis to Run in 2024

With the Florida Legislature recently passing a modification to the state's "resign to run" law, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) can effectively begin his 2024 Presidential campaign while retaining his office. Representative Greg Steube (R-FL), who has endorsed former President Donald Trump, scathingly responded to the news, "Rules for thee but not for me."

Rep. Steube's tweet linked to the Daily Caller which offered additional context to the modified "resign to run" law.

As suggested, the Florida Legislature changed the "resign to run" law to say that running for President or Vice President does not apply.

In February, Florida House Speaker Paul Renner and State Senate President Kathleen Passidomo spoke in favor of this modification, former Congressional candidate and activist Laura Loomer accused Gov. DeSantis of backing the change to his benefit.

Does Rep. Steube's recent comment suggest he holds the same view?

In April, Rep. Steube spoke of Gov. DeSantis seemingly ignoring him for the past five years, "There have been multiple opportunities where I have gone up to him and talked to him, giving him my cell phone number, and asked him to reach out to me."

He also stated, "I walked up to him gave him my cell phone number, and said, 'Hey, I need to talk to you about Lake Okeechobee,' when I first got elected, and not even a person from his staff called me back."

Such comments are at odds with other Florida Republicans who maintained that while they endorsed Donald Trump for President, they still supported DeSantis as Governor.
