Rubio Calls out MLB over the Dodgers' Affiliation with Anti-Catholic Group, Team Reverses Course

Controversially, the Los Angeles Dodgers, one of the most prominent teams in Major League Baseball (MLB), announced that they would be giving a “Community Hero Award” to the LA chapter of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence during pride month (June). However, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) spoke out against the decision to hand out the award, and it has now been reversed.

The group, which has been described as “activist drag queen performers,” participate in bar crawls that imitate the Stations of the Cross. Their motto is “Go forth and sin some more!”

Sen. Rubio wrote a letter to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, inquiring whether the League is “inclusive and welcoming to Christians.”

“Do you believe that the Los Angeles Dodgers are being ‘inclusive and welcoming to everyone’ by giving an award to a group of gay and transgender drag performers that intentionally mocks and degrades Christians—and not only Christians, but nuns, who devote their lives to serving others?” stated Sen. Rubio.

He would also mention more of the “lewd” and “blasphemous” practices of the group.

“The ‘sisters’ are men who dress in lewd imitation of Roman Catholic nuns. The group’s motto, ‘go and sin some more,’ is a perversion of Jesus’s command to ‘go, and sin no more.’ The group’s ‘Easter’ ceremony features children’s programming followed by a drag show where adult performers dress in blasphemous imitation of Jesus and Mary. The group hosts pub crawls mocking the Stations of the Cross and even the Eucharist, the sacrament that unites more than one billion Catholics around the world,” said Rubio.

Since the letter was sent and made public, the Dodgers reversed course and announced that they would not honor their original plan to grant the award to the anti-Catholic group. Rubio stated that “For once, common sense prevailed in California.”

“In the spirit of unity, the Los Angeles Dodgers are proud to host our 10th annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night on June 16th…We are now aware that our inclusion of one group in particular – The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence – in this year’s Pride Night has been the source of some controversy. Given the strong feelings of people who have been offended by the sisters’ inclusion in our evening, and in an effort not to distract from the great benefits that we have seen over the years of Pride Night, we are deciding to remove them from this year’s group of honorees,” stated the Dodgers.

The LA Dodgers are currently atop the NL West standings.
