DeSantis set to Announce Presidential Candidacy

Share

This week promises to be a rollercoaster in the political world. Both Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (R) are expected to announce their White House aspirations. With that comes a more crowded GOP pool of potential as well as more political threats for President Joe Biden (D) to prepare for. Ahead of Gov. DeSantis announcing his presidential candidacy, polls indicate he’s trailing behind both Biden and Trump.

News has circulated that DeSantis is planning on announcing his bid for the presidency this week, but polls also indicate that he’s struggling behind the GOP frontrunner, President Donald Trump (R), and President Biden. A poll from FiveThirtyEight indicates that DeSantis is trailing President Trump by 30 points while a recent Morning Consult poll indicates that both DeSantis and Trump are lagging behind President Biden. In contrast, a poll conducted by Harvard University shows Trump leading Biden by 7 points.

To this, Trump released a message to supporters, arguing that “this is the real reason why Democrats are launching witch hunt after witch hunt to try and destroy our movement.”

Yet again, DeSantis is lagging behind Biden in a Redfield and Wilton Strategies poll. In the poll, DeSantis is trailing Biden by 14 points with a tally of 47% support for Biden and 33% of support for DeSantis.

DeSantis is expected to file paperwork with the Federal Election Commission declaring his presidential candidacy on May 25. In recent comments, he hinted at his eventual announcement and noted that he is a surefire bet for Republicans to reclaim the White House.

“You have basically three people at this point that are credible in this whole thing – Biden, Trump and me… and I think of those three, two have a chance to get elected president – Biden and me,” DeSantis said.
