The criticism against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) continues to pile. California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) and President Donald Trump (R) have issued scathing comments against DeSantis. Both could be potential rivals should DeSantis announce his intention to seek the White House. Though DeSantis has made no such announcement, both Newsom and Trump are making it clear that DeSantis should withhold from 2024 aspirations.
In recent weeks, Governor Newsom has directed choice words against DeSantis. While DeSantis journeys to blue states to tout Florida’s accomplishments under his administration, Newsom has traveled to red states to discuss how DeSantis and Republicans are a threat to democracy.
On the other hand, Trump has had his hands full with legal woes. However, despite Republican opposition suggesting that he should drop out of the race, Trump has maintained that he is determined to go all the way to the White House.
This week, Trump once again turned to DeSantis to criticize the Florida Governor.
“Ron DeSantis is a young man who is not doing well against me in the polls, to put it mildly,” said Trump.
He went on to explain that, if DeSantis decides to run in 2024, it would prove to be a great danger to the GOP winning the presidency.
“I believe that if he decides to run for President, which will only hurt and somewhat divide the Republican Party, he will lose the cherished and massive MAGA vote, and never be able to successfully run for office again,” Trump explained.
Newsom, elaborating on his recent interview with Jen Psaki for MSNBC, further acted as a political commentator.
After expressing that Trump would “roll him, thumped,” in the primaries, criticized DeSantis’ support for permitless carry in the state, suggesting that DeSantis did not sign the bill into law because of its unpopularity.
“They overwhelmingly oppose that position,” Newsom expressed, saying that he believes “the majority of NRA members probably oppose that position.” “No background checks? No background checks? Really, I mean, no training? Why would you do that with weapons of war?” he questioned.
DeSantis has openly criticized Newsom’s time in office, but he has not directly criticized President Trump.
