New DeSantis Bill Unprecedented on Illegal Immigration

Last year Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) made headlines after flying illegal immigrants to Martha's Vineyard with Florida taxpayer dollars.  Now it looks like we may see more of the same in the latest Florida GOP immigration bill.

The bill, which is likely to be signed into law, would give millions of dollars to the governor's program that sends illegal immigrants to blue states.

Although not a border state, the governor of Florida has made illegal immigration a key part of his plan to pit himself against President Joe Biden (D).  Governor DeSantis went as far as deploying first responders in Texas and other border states in an effort to combat illegal immigration. Earlier in his first term, DeSantis ripped on sanctuary cities, fully eradicating them in the state of Florida.

"With this legislation, Florida is continuing to crack down on the smuggling of illegal aliens, stopping municipalities from issuing ID cards to people here illegally, and ensuring that employers are hiring American citizens or those here legally,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Florida is a law and order state, and we won’t turn a blind eye to the dangers of Biden’s Border Crisis. We will continue to take steps to protect Floridians from reckless federal open border policies."

The bill also includes multiple caveats that repeal previous laws, even from former Governor Rick Scott, such as not allowing illegal immigrants into the Florida Bar, increasing the penalty for human trafficking to a second-degree felony, and invalidating driver's licenses of those who are from another state and cannot prove their citizenship.
