Florida House Speaker Compares Democratic Party's Abortion Stance to China, North Korea

Share

Florida Speaker of the House Paul Renner (R) compared the Democratic Party’s “extreme” and supportive of late-term position on abortion to that of Communist China and North Korea.

Speaker Renner did not specifically name the Florida Democratic Party, but rather the political party as a whole, saying that there wasn’t a “distinction” between Democrats and those nations.

“They make no distinction, they are where countries like China and North Korea are, the countries of Europe are between 10 and 14 weeks,” said Speaker Renner. “They have said at the national level that there is no limit, that you can have an abortion up until the moment of birth.”

Renner explained that Democrats believe that all taxpayers, regardless of their beliefs, should pay for an abortion whether they agree with it or not.”

In regards to children getting pregnant, Renner repeated the Progressive narrative that parents should not have to consent for the child to have an abortion, nor should they “even have notification of an abortion,” adding, “That’s an extreme position. That aligns the Democrat Party with states like China and North Korea.”

Renner’s remark comes on the heal of Florida House Democrats filing a mountain (50) of amendments aimed at diluting the controversial 6-week abortion bill currently in the House of Representatives

The Democratic effort was led by Progressive Rep. Anna Eskamani, who is trying to rename the 6-week abortion measure  to the “Forced Pregnancy Act.”

In response to The Floridian’s request for comment. Rep. Eskamani didn’t address Renner’s comparison of the  Democratic Party to China and North Korea, rather focused on minor children having abortions.

That is not true, and that's not how abortion care works. I would recommend for anyone who does not understand pregnancy or abortion to talk to medical providers versus using inflammatory talking points,” stated Rep. Eskamani. “The experience for those under 18 is especially challenging, especially for youth that lives in foster care and don't have parents. Important to be empathetic, non-judgmental and apolitical when talking about this issue.”

When asked if Republican lawmakers would entertain the idea of completely outlawing abortion. Renner stated,”I don’t think its going to happen anytime soon I don’t think that is where most Floridians would be.”

Renner also believes that there will be Republicans lawmakers won't "be able to support" the abortion bill because they represent districts that support a complete ban on abortion.

The Florida Senate has already passed its version of the 6-week abortion ban. Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to swiftly sign the 6-week abortion bill as soon as it lands on his desk.
