DeSantis Team Worries Over Trump Support?

Share

Reports are circulating, indicating that DeSantis’ team is worried over growing support for President Donald Trump's (R) presidential run. In recent weeks, Gov. DeSantis has been criticized by two likely opponents, President Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom (D).

Since announcing his intention to run for the presidency, President Trump has picked up endorsements from members of Florida's congressional delegation.

Florida Reps. Anna Paulina Luna (R), Matt Gaetz (R), Cory Mills (R) and Byron Donalds (R) have all endorsed Trump as rumors continue to swirl that DeSantis will be running for the White House.

However, given Donald’s recent endorsement of Trump, reports now indicate that DeSantis’ team has made calls to six members of Florida’s congressional delegation, asking them to refrain from making any endorsements in the near future.

The delegation includes Florida Reps. Kat Cammack (R), Mario Diaz-Balart (R), Vern Buchanan (R), Aaron Bean (R), Laurel Lee (R), and Greg Steube (R).

Recent polls have indicated that Trump is outpolling DeSantis, and in a recent interview, Governor Newsom suggested that DeSantis should sit this election out because Trump would beat him in the primaries.

Leading the charge on calling members of Florida's congressional delegation is said to be Ryan Tyson, a longtime GOP pollster and a prominent member of DeSantis’ political circle. Tyson is also speculated to have scheduled calls between congressional members and DeSantis himself.

As quoted by Yahoo News, a GOP consultant for one of the congressional members that was contacted by DeSantis' team said that “there is clearly some angst from the DeSantis camp that so many members of the state’s congressional delegation are throwing their support behind Trump.” “Gaetz going with Trump is one thing, but Byron’s endorsement of the former president undoubtedly rattled some cages” added the consultant.

DeSantis has not directly addressed recent criticism from his political rivals, but political pundits argue that given his recent journey across the country, DeSantis is poised to make his presidential aspirations clear soon enough.
