“Constitutional Carry is in the books,” said Governor Ron DeSantis after signing the controversial constitutional carry measure spearheaded by Sen. Jay Collins.
And just like that, no fanfare, bells, whistles, no cameras, as is the case whenever Gov. DeSantis signs a big piece of legislation.
Gov. DeSantis failed to get open carry introduced and passed in the Florida Legislature, but he is happy with getting “90% or 80%” of what he asked for.
"I'm for everything, I've said that from the beginning. If they send me something that is 90% or 80%, I'm gonna take that win and we can come back for more," responded Gov. DeSantis.
Democratic lawmakers, as expected, stuck to their gun violence epidemic narrative.
“Thanks to the gun lobby and their GOP enablers in the legislature, our communities will be less safe, not more, with this latest reckless DeSantis priority. Permitless carry increases the risk of both intentional violence and unintentional shootings, with the facts clearly showing an increase of fatalities and gun crimes in the dozens of states that have passed similar laws. There is no denying we face a gun violence epidemic in this state and our country. People are yearning for solutions because every Floridian ought to feel safe at school, the grocery store, the movies, entertainment venues, where they worship. The last thing this moment calls for is MORE untrained, unvetted, potentially dangerous individuals with guns in public places," stated Sen. Shevrin Jones
