Florida Rep. Mike Waltz (R) has penned an op-ed, going after Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry (D). In the op-ed, Rep. Waltz calls Kerry a threat to national security, arguing that Kerry isn't tough on China.
Waltz has been a vocal opponent of both the Biden administration and the Communist Chinese Party, and in a newly-released op-ed for Fox News, the Florida Republican takes aim at Kerry's work in addressing the climate.
"The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) cares first and foremost about displacing the United States from its perch among the world’s powers, and this is particularly true when it comes to powering the world," Waltz writes, expressing that the recent controversy regarding the Chinese spy balloon was not effectively addressed.
Waltz accuses Democrats of wanting the United States to appease China in an effort to get the nation to help with combatting climate change, adding that "just last month, at a Heritage Foundation event about China and Ukraine, a protester took to the stage with a message consistent with Kerry’s actions: "China’s not our enemy, the climate crisis is."
However, Waltz laments that this approach could prove to be disastrous in the end, calling it "delusional."
"First, from espionage and human rights abuses to supply chain monopolies and intellectual property thefts, the CCP is clearly a massive threat to U.S. sovereignty," Waltz commented, adding that "China emits more than the whole developed world and is building an astonishing number of coal plants."
Waltz went on to slam the Biden administration, writing that although "many in the Biden administration, notably John Kerry, are willing to sacrifice national security and human rights concerns in the name of climate policy... this futile attempt to appease Chairman Xi won’t get the world’s worst emitter to decarbonize any faster than is in its own interests."
