Rubio: U.S. Must Have Strategy if China Invades Taiwan

China continues to seek global dominance, going so far as to prepare for a potential invasion of Taiwan by 2027. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has teamed up with Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) to introduce a bill demanding the United States formulate a strategy to counteract such an event.

Named the Taiwan Protection and National Resilience Act, the bill would require multiple agencies including the Defense, Commerce, State Departments, and others, to present the plan within six months of its adoption.

Courses of action outlined in the Act center on two key points: determine what resources China imports from the United States that can be used as leverage, and in turn, identify vulnerabilities in our own procurement of imports from China, especially for the Armed Forces and other Federal agencies.

Additionally, should Taiwan be invaded, the U.S. must have in place plans to restrict Chinese ability to access resources and cut off means of evading sanctions.

In his press release, Sen. Rubio said, "the threat of a reckless blockade or invasion of Taiwan from the CCP is real and one that both the U.S. and our international allies must be prepared for."

Just recently, Rubio spoke at the Heritage Foundation, calling for a new approach to U.S. foreign policy towards China, since "today we are a country where the majority of people in government, and certainly the majority of prominent people in society, have never lived in a world where America has a near-peer competitor, another country with similar power and with hostile intentions."
