Mills Gets Candid About Abortion, Discusses Born Alive Act

Share

At one of his recent town hall events in Deltona, Florida,  Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) spoke about his support of the Born Alive Act, a piece of legislation that looks to protect infant children that survive abortions.

Former President Donald Trump (R) signed an executive order addressing this issue in the waning days of his presidency in September of 2020, bypassing the Democrat-controlled Congress at the time.

The bill was attempted to be codified as law earlier this year but stalled in the Democrat-controlled Senate. It was sponsored by Representative Ann Wagner (R-MO) and Kat Cammack (R-FL).

“We talk about it in America, and it’s an uncommonly used term, which is life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…I also recognize that there are certain things in Congress that we have to ensure is provided. It’s very clear that it is no longer the leftist argument of ‘my body, my choice.’ These are children who are born as a result of failed abortions, who up until this bill was not afforded neonatal care to help them try and attempt for their survival,” stated Rep. Mills.

Rep. Mills  would go on to mention that he has seen horrific videos of children after the failed procedure, added the notion that they deserve to be protected.

“And when they tell you that this actually doesn’t occur, I would ask them to go watch the videos that I’ve seen where in some cases, these babies, this life, these children, will lay on the table and suffer for oxygen and even medical treatment for up to an hour before they die. I don’t know any other way to call than murder and infanticide.”

“I can tell you right now that we truly believe in our Constitution, we also understand why our Constitution was formed. It was formed for a very simple purpose, not only for our freedoms, liberties, but to protect our inalienable rights.”

Rep. Mills went on to make a promise: “So I can tell you right now, that any of the attempts that I can put forth, that is not in direct violation and are not unconstitutional, we will guarantee you that we will protect life in the 118th Congress.”

In January, Representative Jared Moskowitz (who voted against the attempt to codify the bill) furnished a statement to The Floridian regarding the issue.

“House Republicans are pushing an anti-choice agenda that is not only harmful to women across Florida but undermines the very fabric of American freedom. The U.S. government has no right to tell a woman what they should do with their body. But after the disastrous Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade last year, we are now witnessing the beginning of radical attacks on reproductive rights. This is only the beginning from extreme Republicans, as they embark down the dark path to undermine access to health care for millions of women.”

The abortion issue continues to be an incredibly divisive issue nationwide.
