In a recent House Oversight Committee hearing, Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) demanded accountability for a potential abortion-related crime in Washington, D.C., saying "one of the most egregious crimes occurred in D.C. without any oversight."
"One of the most egregious crimes occurred in D.C. without any oversight. Look at these pictures. Some of these babies were born alive. @councilofdc agreed Dr. Santangelo’s medical license must be revoked," Rep. Luna stated.

For context, Rep. Luna refers to a March 2022 incident wherein a pro-life group, Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), claimed to have obtained a container of 115 aborted fetuses from the Washington Surgi-Clinic.
While the company transporting the remains, Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services, denied they transported fetal remains and turning over the container, what is known is that PAAU activist Lauren Handy had obtained the remains of five full-term infants she turned over to Washington, D.C. police on the grounds their abortions were potentially illegal.
The five babies linked to Dr. Cesare Santangelo, who performed abortions at the clinic where the remains came from. In 2012, a secret recording of Santangelo suggested he supposedly flounced laws in place designed to protect infants born alive during abortion procedures.
However, the D.C. medical examiner did not perform an autopsy.
Luna summed up the story in the footage; with graphic depictions of the five babies' remains behind her; as "one of the most egregious crimes occurred in D.C. with absolutely no hearing and no oversight."
"One of the most egregious crimes occurred in D.C. with absolutely no hearing and no oversight. On March 25th, 2022, a pro-life group received a box containing bodies of 115 children from a worker that was taking it from Washington Surgery Center to be incinerated at a renewable waste facility. Inside the box, along with 110 early-term babies were five full-term babies. I encourage you to look at these photos, because some of these babies were born alive," said Luna.
Luna emotionally described the names given to the five babies by PAAU, briefly pausing momentarily to collect herself.
"The five babies are Christopher, a full-term baby boy whose body was almost fully intact, Harriet, a baby who was born with one eye open... Phoenix, a baby that was born in caul, meaning an amniotic sac, and Holly and Angel, two babies that were dismembered and mutilated to the point that they were in pieces," she continued.
Luna concludes by condemning fellow members of Congress for averting their eyes to the pictures, despite speaking about protecting children.
"Some of my colleagues on this committee say that they care about the safety of children, yet they have failed and turn a blind eye to this awful situation because it does not fit their narrative. And I encourage all of you again, because I see people not looking at these photos, to look at these photos, because this is horrific, and this is known as late-term abortion," Luna concluded.
In response, the D.C. Council said should the allegations prove true, they would revoke Dr. Santangelo's medical license.
I asked DC Council if Dr. Santangelo’s medical license should be removed to shut down these crimes.
They said yes. pic.twitter.com/JzyB6BJWXy
