Florida's Aetna Branch Leads Children's Week in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE – As Children’s Week is in full swing in Florida's Capitol, Aetna Better Health of Florida held a large event on the Old Capitol steps on Tuesday to express their willingness to keep fighting on behalf of the livelihood of children and families.

Advocacy groups such as the Children’s Home Society of Florida and others had tents erected in the courtyard to bring awareness and celebrate Children’s Week.

Moreover, members of Florida’s political establishment gave testimony to their continued efforts to address parental rights, education in schools, and their plans going forward.

Aetna Better Health of Florida CEO Jennifer Sweet was in attendance alongside Florida Department of Education (FDOE) Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr., State Representatives Daniel Perez (R-FL), Mike Gottlieb (D-FL), Anna V. Eskamani (D-FL), and State Senator Alexis Calatayud (R-FL).

According to Aetna’s website, they are “committed to providing individuals, employers, health care professionals and producers with innovative benefits, products and services.”

The Florida arm of the company, moreover, is devoted to facilitating those who qualify for Medicaid in the state.

The Floridian was able to catch up with CEO Sweet following the event.

“The event today is fantastic. There’s so much energy around this issue around highlighting and advocating for the issues that impact children’s lives…we manage health care for children, but we partner with so many of these advocacy organizations in order to really create and strengthen the social safety net that serves them all,” stated CEO Sweet.

“Aetna Better Health of Florida is just very proud to be part of a managed care plan in Florida. We have Medicaid contracts with the state,  we know he’s  (DeSantis) bringing good things to children here and we’re happy to support them," said Sweet.

Commissioner Diaz Jr. also said, “it’s incredibly important that parents have control and rights over their (kid’s) education.”

“And all of our legislators that are working for kids at the Department of Education, we think it’s incredibly important that parents have control and rights over their education. And then kids need to be kids. And we need to focus especially in early learning and literacy.”
