Florida Surgeon General Performs CPR on man in State Capitol, Saves his Life

Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, MD, along with several Capitol police officers, are credited with saving a man’s life this past week who suffered an apparent heart attack.

Dr. Ladapo, who was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, spoke to The Floridian about the incident, detailing how it all unfolded.

Dr. Ladapo said that he saw a group of police officers carrying a “big red medical bag” to a man that was “slouched over” in the chair he was sitting in, and complaining to him of “heart pain.

Ladapo said that he and two other doctors engaged the man, who quickly “lost consciousness”

“We couldn’t feel a pulse. I ran the defibrillator, it recommended we shock him,” said Dr. Ladapo,” adding, “Yesterday chances are if no one was around to help him, sadly he would sadly not be on the planet today. Fortunately, we were there and were able to help him.”

Ladapo also divulged that he even though his job as surgeon general keeps him busy, he still manages to practice medicine a couple of times a month.
