During his “Exposing the DEI Scam” roundtable discussion with of group of stakeholders in the issue, including Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr, Gov. Ron DeSantis asserted that he believes ‘woke’ universities around the country may discriminate against certain ethnicities as they continue to engage the controversial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative in education.
Gov. DeSantis reminded viewers that in Florida, the admission process was transparent and “color blind,” but warned that outside of the state, universities “messing” with DEI could alienate prospective students because of their ethnicity.
DeSantis also believes that the U.S. Supreme Court will rule on “racial preferences,” they will nix the DEI argument.
“But I think what the universities are gonna do is they're going to go and kind of in a more opaque way try to do a bunch of different things to engineer the same results,” said DeSantis. “ I think that I think these DEI concepts are going to be very key into how they're able to justify what they're ending up doing.”
DeSantis also believes that universities are already pushing the DEI agenda by saying that they will not be mandating students to partake in “standardized testing.”
“I mean just imagine no standardized test to go to medical school you know wouldn't you want to know if your doctor didn't need to do a standardized test,” added DeSantis. “I mean do we want the best or do we want to just try to follow and do some type of political ideology?
State Rep. Anan Eskamani (D) recently penned an op-ed where she took issue with DeSantis's focus on DEI and Critical Race Theory in education.
“This obsession that DeSantis and other conservatives have shown towards abolishing minority-focused programs like women and gender studies alongside their demonization of DEI, CRT, African American studies, and integration of “western civilization” into core curriculum has often been characterized as a culture war. But every culture war is a class war,” stated Rep. Eskamani.
