Waltz Responds to Biden Immigration Plan After SOTU

As the nation is transitioning from its immediate reaction to President Biden’s (D) State of the Union address to now reacting to others’ reactions of the speech, The Floridian was able to catch up with Representative Michael Waltz (R-FL). to get his response to the annual address to the nation.

While speaking with Rep. Waltz, we were able to hear his thoughts about Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) saying that the President’s speech was not enthusiastic enough about making asylum easier to obtain for those outside of the country.

First, Rep. Waltz addressed the President’s remarks before discussing Rep. Omar’s reaction.

“I think there’s just a bunch of hot air from the President on the border. It would be laughable if it weren’t so serious and tragic, right? But just what a slap in the face to our Border Patrol, our ICE, to our National Guardsmen…literally with a stroke of a pen, he can make policy changes: Title 42, remain in Mexico, asylum in your home country, and put a little bit of pressure on the Mexican government to deploy their National Guard to guard their southern border. That’s it,” stated Waltz.

He would go on to mention the fact that the President failed to properly address the greater threats to the nation according to Waltz, which is China and the rise of socialism in South and Central America but decided to really focus on companies charging hidden fees.

“Seven sentences on the greatest national security threat this country ever faced in China. And that was after he’s talking about airline baggage fees and resort fees, and just this bizarre meandering, ridiculous diatribe, and all of that kind of petty stuff. But he’s not going to talk about China. He’s not going to talk about the rise of socialism in South and Central America,” Waltz said.

The Florida Congressman provided a solution that he finds bipartisan to address some of the concerns at the border, as well as talk about Omar’s statements.

“One would that think that would be layup to say ‘hey, look, let’s go after the cartels.’ You don’t even have to talk about securing the border…I don’t even know what she is upset with,” Waltz shared.

The State of the Union was incredibly lively, as members of both sides, but mostly House Republicans, were very vocal throughout the speech.
