Scott, Luna Comment on Biden's SOTU Address

Share

President Joe Biden (D) issued his State of the Union (SOTU) address this week, and Republicans have been quick to issue a response. The Floridian caught up with Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R) and Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) to discuss Biden's comments after delivering his speech.

During his address, President Biden took several political swipes at Republicans.

For example, President Biden expressed that "instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset every five years."

This prompted Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) to call Biden a "liar!" However, while Republicans made it clear that they disapproved of his message, Democrats championed Biden's work thus far.

Senator Scott and Rep. Luna discussed what the president had said, and both lawmakers expressed that Biden's speech was nothing to write home about.

When asked what Biden's speech was lacking, Senator Scott answered that there were several things missing from the address.

"Inflation. There's nothing to lower gas prices... he's restricted drilling, he's restricted production, he's attacking the oil and gas companies," Senator Scott explained, adding that "he's done nothing to reduce food prices." "He's done nothing to secure the border," Scott further warned, noting that that's a direct issue that contributes to the fentanyl concern in the United States.

Rep. Luna further commented that "people will do and say things while the cameras are rolling, but then from a policy position they do the exact opposite." Luna went on to affirm that president Biden "will say one thing, but he won't do it,"  detailing that he has failed in regards to American energy, American production, and securing the border.

"Being tough on China is an example," Luna also mentioned, warning that the United States has "energy dependence on other countries."

"We’re better positioned than any country on Earth," President Biden asserted, and with 2024 around the corner, Republicans are eager to unseat Biden.
