Frost Goes on Diplomatic Exchange to Korea and Japan

Share

In 2022, Florida voters elected the first Gen-Z legislator to the federal government, Representative Maxwell Frost (D-FL). After making history in November, Rep. Frost joined Reps. Mark Takano (D-CA), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and French Hill (R-AR) to a “delegation & legislation exchange” trip to Japan and Korea.

According to Rep. Frost, “This bi-partisan trip looks to strengthen the relationships between members of the US Congress, National Assembly of South Korea, and the Japanese National Diet. The National Diet is Japan’s legislature that consists of two chambers, just like the US!”

Moreover, Frost visited Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, South Korea, where he believes that appreciating and comprehending the traditions and landmarks of the foreign ally is a great way to foster valuable diplomacy.

“Visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace this morning! Learning about the history and culture of a place is essential to truly understanding the people and fostering good relationships,” said Frost.

However, perhaps the most noteworthy part of Frost’s trip was meeting with trans organizer and activist Fumino Sugiyama in Tokyo, Japan.

Frost mentioned that Japan attempting to pass “real anti-discrimination laws to protect LGBTQ+ folks” and that he was inspired by Sugiyama.

“He laid out the struggle & how the community is battling with both legal & cultural roadblocks to even be recognized. I spoke with him about the current fight in Florida & how Gov. DeSantis is targeting LGBTQ+ kids,” stated Frost.

Florida politics truly travels the world.
