DeSantis Plans to End Tuition Waivers for Undocumented Migrants

JACKSONVILLE – While at a press conference addressing the “Biden Border Crisis,” Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) – adorning his signature on the podium – spoke about college tuition and idea of cancelling tuition waivers for undocumented immigrants at Florida universities and institutions of higher learning.

Serving as the Director of Rapid Response for Gov. DeSantis, Christina Pushaw called it “#Commonsense.”

Within the video, Gov. DeSantis says that he’s fighting against the institutions that want to raise tuition prices and that this is one of the ways to do so.

“We work really hard to make higher education affordable for Floridians and we’re proud of that. We have the most affordable higher education in the country…However, there’s a movement, they want to raise tuition, I won’t let them raise tuition, but they want to do it,” said DeSantis.

He would go on to mention that you need to be a U.S. citizen in order to receive the benefits of a discounted postsecondary education.

“So if we want to hold the line on tuition, then you got to say, you need to be a U.S. citizen who lives in Florida. Why would we subsidize non-U.S. citizens when we want to make sure we can keep it affordable for our own people?” stated DeSantis.

Also, DeSantis spoke on his intention to include “E-Verify” into new legislation in order to “remove the enticement of employment” of illegal immigrants, according to WKMG-6 (Orlando).

“In the face of a failed federal administration, neglect at the border, honestly intentional of what is going on at the border because it fits a vision, we are fighting back on behalf of Floridians, and I think that if other states mimic the proposals that I’ve been put forth today, and the proposed legislation, it is going to make a big, big difference,” DeSantis said.

With more of a focus and a hope that his policies trickle throughout the Union and even a signature on his podium, there are signs that a Presidential campaign is on the horizon.
