In just 4 years under Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida Republicans made an incredible 700,000 voter registration swing, topping Florida Democrats by 400,000 registered voters
Gov. DeSantis just made the announcement on social media, reminding Floridians that as of the 2022 midterm election, Republicans were besting Democrats by 300,000.
"In 2018, Democrats outnumbered Republicans by nearly 300,000. By Election Day 2022, Republicans outnumbered Democrats by 300,000. Today, we can announce that Republicans outnumber Democrats by 400,000. Freedom is here to stay," stated Gov. DeSantis.
Just last week, the Republican Party of Florida held a nearly 384,000 registered-voter advantage over the Florida Democratic Party as of the end of December, according to numbers posted Wednesday on the state Division of Elections website.
The state had 5,312,122 registered Republicans and 4,928,168 registered Democrats. It also had 4,032,731 unaffiliated registered voters and 263,790 third-party voters. Democrats historically held a registration edge, but Republicans overtook them in 2021. Leading up to the November 2022 election, Republicans held about a 306,000-voter advantage.
This news is all but a death blow to Florida Democrats, who are struggling to find their identity, let alone someone to lead their political party.
Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D) told The Floridian earlier this week that her party "lacked messaging" and questioned who would be able to lead the party and change the failed socialist-friendly messaging that cost them the majority in the House of Representatives and in both chambers of the Florida Legislature.
To date, former State Senator Annette Taddeo is the frontrunner to become the Florida Democratic Party leader. Taddeo replaces Manny Diaz, who was forced to resign after activists disapproved of the outcome of the midterm elections.
Gov. Ron DeSantis defeated the Democratic gubernatorial nominee by 20 percentage points, and Senator Marco Rubio defeated Rep. Val Demings to win reelection to the U.S. Senate.
Rep. Demings spent upwards of $40 million more than Sen. Rubio just to lose by 16 percentage points.
