Cammack Reiterates Republicans Won't be Cutting Social Security, Medicare

Democrats continue to push the narrative that Republicans seek to cut funds for Social Security and Medicare. Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) sets the record straight (again) in a recent appearance on Fox's Varney & Co.

"Republicans have been vocal about Medicare and Social Security being off the table, but the White House won’t let go of its false narrative. In the meantime, we’ll keep that clip of Biden from 1975 on replay," stated Rep. Cammack.

Echoing similar comments she made in October, Cammack says the White House Press Office is "on perpetual cleanup duty" backtracking what President Biden says with "'oh no, he never really meant to say that,' or 'that doesn't matter anymore.'"

"Listen, we know that Republicans have been vocal about saying that cuts are off the table when it comes to Social Security and Medicare; we've been very, very vocal about that," Cammack reiterates. Despite this, she says, President Biden continues "pushing this narrative that we're going to be going after seniors."

"That couldn't be further from the truth," emphasizes Cammack. She gets in a pair of jabs at Biden referring to the State of the Union address as the "State of Confusion" wherein Republicans called him out on pushing this narrative, and adds that "we will continue to put that clip of [Biden] from 1975 where he proposed cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and veterans' benefits, and the doubled, tripled, quadrupled down on it in 1995."

Cammack does not expect Biden to remember this (much less what he ate for breakfast this morning).

In January, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) made similar comments about Democrats pushing this narrative of Republicans cutting Social Security and Medicare, calling it a "scare tactic" to distract from making "reforms to spending through non-defense discretionary dollars, which have been increased substantially by the Democrats when they were in full control of this place [Congress] for the last two years."
