Waltz Suggests Military Force be Used Against Mexican Cartels

Share

The battle at the border wages on as tension with Mexican cartels increases. Republicans have long argued for the Biden administration to take on a harder stance on Mexican cartels, warning of the threat they pose to the country and to immigrants. Florida Rep. Mike Waltz (R) plans to introduce legislation for the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) against Mexican Cartels.

Over the weekend, Rep. Waltz joined Maria Bartiromo on Fox News to discuss concerns at the border. A major concern for Waltz is the threat that Mexican Cartels pose. Noting that the cartels have killed members of Mexican military, Waltz argues that it’s time for a more aggressive approach to the cartels.

In the interview, Waltz further warned that “the cartels are running our border.”

“The cartels are destabilizing our neighbor, the entire Mexican government. We need to go on offense against them. I will introduce legislation to authorize the use of military force against these cartels… I want to be clear: I’m not talking about U.S. troops. But I’m talking about cyber, drones, intelligence assets, naval assets,” Waltz explained.

During the interview, Waltz cited President Donald Trump's (R) latest effort to push back against drug cartels. Trump made the announcement earlier this week, arguing that he would "deploy all necessary assets including the U.S. Navy to oppose the full naval embargo on the cartels."

"Our country is being poisoned from within by the drugs and by all of the other crime that's taking place," Trump warned, adding that "the drug cartels are waging wars against America, and now it's time for America to wage war on the cartels."

Trump faced scrutiny during his time in office for his hardline stance on immigration concerns, and he is once again running for the White House in 2024.
