Marco Rubio
The Biden administration has made great strides to get more Americans to sign on for electric vehicles. However, the effort has been met with some pushback from Republicans. Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) is now slamming Democrats, arguing that they are empowering Chinese companies.
Senator Rubio is a vocal critic of the Biden administration while also directing criticism and legislation against the Chinese Communist Party.
While Democrats have supported the effort to get more Americans to commit to using electric vehicles, Senator Rubio has long warned that relying on China’s electric vehicle battery industry is only empowering Chinese companies while also contributing to the growing oppression in the country against Uyghur Muslims.
In an effort to get more Americans to use electric vehicles, the Biden administration has issued “a tax credit of up to $7,500 when you buy a new electric vehicle.” This has been met with criticism from GOP members.
On social media, Rubio shared his disappointment with the tax credit, commenting that “Democrats said it wouldn’t, but they blocked my amendment to stop US tax dollars from going to Chinese-made batteries anyway.”
“Now we know why,” Rubio lamented.
Last year, Rubio also directed criticism at tax credits from the Biden administration, further expressing that it would be subsidizing Chinese manufacturing instead of empowering the United States.
“It is crazy to subsidize critical mineral and battery production in China. We expect that from the Chinese Communist Party, but not the Democrat Party. Maybe this makes sense to their friends running multinational corporations in China, but it makes no sense to those of us trying to bring good jobs back to America," Rubio said. In contrast, what Rubio said in 2019 is that the United States should be pursuing “a 21st century pro-American industrial policy.”
Republicans have joined Rubio in the call.
