Kat Cammack Accuses Democrats of 'Drinking Booze' During House Vote

Share

After several days, the U.S. House  of Representatives still has not elected a Speaker.  While the debacle has led to much speculation over Republicans' inability to govern, Democrats have also made quite the scene on the House floor as publicly demonstrated by US Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL).

Rep. Cammack publicly supports US Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to be Speaker of the House.  Surprisingly, Cammack has not aligned herself with Republicans of the same brand, such as US Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) who has a small sect of supporters to become Speaker.

As Rep. Cammack spoke on the House floor she took a shot at Democrats, accusing them of "drinking booze" and eating popcorn on the House floor as the process has drawn out for far too long.

During the fifth vote for House Speaker Cammack said from the podium, stating, "They want us divided. They want us to fight each other.  That much has been made clear by the popcorn and blankets and alcohol that is coming up over there."

The comments were met with jeers and boos and plenty of retaliation online.  US Rep. Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) Tweeted, "If Dems took shot every time McCarthy lost a Republican, we'd all be unconscious by now."

As the voting   progressed, the House is still yet to assemble the leadership for the 118th Congress.  However, Florida Republicans have played a consequential role in stalling the process.

Freshman Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has joined US Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) in supporting Jim Jordan, who has increased in popularity since the first round of voting.  The split among the GOP highlights Democrat criticism that Trump has redefined the Republican party since 2020 and triggered a paradigm shift for the foreseeable future.
