FL Legislators Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King's Legacy

Share

As the holiday weekend comes to a close and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. continues to be celebrated, many Florida legislators have released ceremonious statements to honor the late great American hero. While there might be divisions within the country and disagreements on the most fundamental issues politically, both sides of the aisle see eye to eye on commemorating the icon.

“Each #MLKDay, we honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy and learn from his commitment to fighting injustice. May today remind us to stand up for what is right and work tirelessly to ensure every American can live their dream,” tweeted Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL).

Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) offered her commemoration for the civil rights leader as well.

“Today we celebrate and honor a man who once said, “I have a dream, one dream, keep dreaming. Dream of freedom, justice dreaming, dreaming of equality, and hopefully no longer required to dream them”—Happy 94th Birthday to the honorable Dr. Martin Luther King Jr,” tweeted Cherfilus-McCormick.

Moreover, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), who recently became the first black Republican to be nominated for Speaker of the House, said that MLK’s legacy is a testament to the “promise & exceptionalism of this great nation.”

“MLK’s legacy is more than a dream come true. It’s a fulfillment of the promise & exceptionalism of this great nation. Through unwavering courage, strength, & faith Dr. King shattered barriers not just at home but worldwide. May his memory continue to be a blessing & example 🙏🏿🇺🇸” tweeted Donalds.

America continues to make strides towards progress every day.
