The midterm elections solidified Republicans' super majority in the Florida legislature, and prominent Democrats could not be more frustrated. State Rep. Angie Nixon (D-14) blew up on Twitter listing a number of issues she has with Republican leadership in Florida.
Rep. Nixon has gained fast notoriety recently for some of her provocative comments about her colleagues on the other side of the aisle. The Floridian previously reported earlier this year her accusation against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) as being a racist.
The progressive representative has a history of taking on the governor, even accusing him of buying votes ahead of the election by sending checks to Florida families.
Nixon called it a "new freaking low!" The governor's office maintained these checks were one-time payments "that can be used for anything from buying diapers to fueling up at the pump."
After briefly mentioning some unfortunate events in her personal life, Nixon calls out "dumb ass antics" which is presumably the recent actions of her conservative colleague State Rep. Joe Harding (R-22) who was indicted for fraud charges. Nixon goes on to mention "fraud charges, trafficking allegations from the Feds."
After mentioning the housing crisis and even directly blaming Republicans for healthcare and education issues .
"After decades of republicans being in power in Tallahassee what has that honestly gotten us? Honestly? Failing schools, a mass exodus of teachers, rising housing costs, poor health care, lack of Medicaid expansion, culture wars and the list goes on," stated Nixon.
Clearly, voters did not see the same reality that Rep. Nixon or Florida Democrats do. Republicans made massive gains in Florida in 2022, unlike the rest of the nation where the GOP underperformed expectations.
Many political observers around the nation expect DeSantis' midterm performance to be telling of where Republicans may look in 2024 and beyond.
